In this week's episode, we continue our Trinity Season Journey, travelling through the last of the Sundays in the pursuit of the grace of illumination. Today, we seek sight of the Kingdom of God in pursuit of the putting down of the lusts of the flesh, and elevating our hunger for the things that will live into eternity. We learn with St. Paul to rejoice in all things, even suffering, for in Christ, suffering finds meaning. In our gospel we watch the collision of a funeral procession with the procession of the Lord of life, and we see the victory of the Kingdom of heaven over the kingdom of darkness and death. Our Trinity Season Journey continues as the Church brings us to an unnamed village where Jesus encounters 10 lepers. All 10 are healed, but only one is made whole. Sloth, the unwillingness of the heart to pursue that which is most important, keeps the 9 from entering into wholeness, but it is the counter to sloth, living the Eucharistic life, that brings the Samaritan into wholeness in Christ. Luke 17:11

This week we continue to seek the grace of illumination, eyes that are opened and ears that are unstopped to see ourselves as we are and the hear the voice of Christ speaking into our hearts. We hear the command to love God with our whole being and to love our neighbor as our self, but who is our neighbor? It is in this context that we continue our fight against the deadly sin of wrath.

We are seeking to learn to cut away the root out of which the deadly sin of dejection grows and to put on the lively virtue of courage; to put on courage, though, requires our spiritual senses to be awakened, so that we might learn to see and hear the things of the kingdom, and to speak of the greater glory that will live on forever. We consider our Lord's warning against "false prophets," and the reminder of St. Paul, that we learn to release our attachment to the things of this present age through the mortifying of the deeds of the flesh.
