Almost one third of home Christmas tree fires are caused by electrical problems. An estimated 7,400 home fires started by candles caused an average 90 civilian deaths, 670 civilian injuries and $291 million dollars in direct property damage per year between 2015 and 2019.

Jim Dale is Volunteer Coordinator for the Rice County Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign. Christmas week is their best week for fundraising but they are in dire need of bell ringers at the kettles in Faribault, Northfield and Lonsdale.

Cheryl Wendt is in charge of the new Free Food Market at the Community Action Center of Faribault on Cannon Circle. Wendt says they are open mornings two days a week and evening two days a week to assist people.The Community Action Center of Faribault has teamed with Community Action Center of Northfield. The FREE Food Market is currently supporting 50 to 90 households a day. Volunteers are always needed.

Craig Biorn graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1979. Last week he received the 2021 Brightside Empirical Review Award for his acrylic paintings.The author has written two true stories.One about his wife Bilan from Somalia and another about his Mom Barbara showing her lamb in the summer of 1957 at the Goodhue County Fair. Barbara Luhman grew up on the family farm in Goodhue, Mn. The book talks about live on the farm. Craig painted the covers of both books which brought him to the attention of the Brightside Board in Florida where he now lives.
