Onto our next letter — “Ki”, in this episode, we learn about the phrase “ki no doku” (気の毒) and its metaphor to drinking poison.

I stumbled upon a new Japanese word “kaoku” (家屋) which got me confused with “ie” (家) briefly mentioned in episode 4. Thus, in this episode, I attempt to differentiate between 3 words which all mean the same thing — ‘house’.

In this episode, we have a glance at the word “omiai” (お見合い), which means an arranged meeting before marriage, a popular way to find a suitable partner back then.

The word ‘“enryo” meaning ‘restraint’ is associated with giving consideration to people around you, and is often used in Japanese conversation. We will learn two phrases with the word “enryo” that you can add in to your daily conversations.
