AMATEUR BASEBALL: Opening-night success for A's

Home cooking. That’s what the Pipestone A’s amateur baseball team enjoyed in its season-opening victory over the Flandreau Blue Teal, 9-4, on Wednesday evening at City Field. “They were a young, energetic team,” Pipestone A’s manager Avery Ploeger said of the Blue Teal, one of two summer baseball teams based in Flandreau. Ploeger said the Blue Teal featured challenging pitchers — starter Emmet Nathan settled down after a wild first inning allowing the A’s six runs.
