    I. Sinful desires—that wage war within the heart—cause church conflicts (1-3)
    * Question: What is causing all the quarrels and fights among you?
    * Answer: Isn’t it your desires battling inside you? (4:1)
    1. 1st sinful heart desire that can cause conflict within the church is uncontrolled desires
    2. 2nd sinful heart desire that can cause conflict within the church is unfulfilled desires
    3. 3rd sinful heart desire that can cause conflict within the church is selfish desires
    II. Spiritual adultery—choosing to befriend the world instead of God—is why Pretenders desire sinful pleasures (4-5)
    * Implied Question: As professing believers, why are you choosing to gratify your sinful desires and cause conflict in the church?
    * Implied Answer: You have chosen to befriend the World, become an enemy of God
    1. To become a friend of God [Christian], a genuine believer must forsake his previous friendship with the world
    2. The Scriptures have always taught that the natural man—as a friend of the world—will have strong desires of envy. (5)
    III. Challenge: Back to Our Original Questions
    1. Today, Who is your Best Friend … really?
    2. You … and others … can tell by WHO has captured the affections of Your heart!
    3. Which friend will you choose to offend: Christ who died for you .. or the World who lies to you?
