  • Max Lucado Daily Devotional - Those Who Can’t See

    Listen to Today's Devotion

From Heaven’s viewpoint, our earth is populated by sightless people. They do not see the meaning of life or the love of God. How else do we explain the confusion and chaos? How else do we explain the constant threat of world war, plagues of hunger, racism, and the Holocaust of the unborn? Billions of people simply cannot see.

The scripture says, “The devil who rules this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe.” They cannot see the light of the good news, the good news about the glory of Christ who is exactly like God. We need a spiritual ophthalmologist. We need Jesus to do for us what he did for the man on the side of the Jerusalem road. He restored his sight and he will do the same for us. Remember, my friends, you are never alone.

  • A Word With You - Compartment Faith - #10381

Sometimes when I’m speaking at a youth conference, I show up on the platform with a pie and a can of whipped cream. Sometimes it makes the front row a little nervous. But not to fear—it’s only an illustration, not a weapon. I have my pie cut into six slices. I cover one of those slices with a generous serving of whipped cream. Then the big question to the audience, “How many slices are going to taste like whipped cream?” There’s no trick question here. One slice will. Then I spray the whipped cream all over that pie and then there’s whipped cream everywhere. And then I repeat the question. This is not hard. Every slice of the pie now will taste like whipped cream. Which, whether you realize it or not, could have a lot to do with how God feels about you as a Christian!

I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about “Compartment Faith.”

When we think about letting Jesus Christ be the Lord of our life, as He says He must be, we tend to think of one big slice that will be His—it becomes the Jesus-slice of our life. So, in that slice, you read His Book, you go to His meetings, you give to His offerings, you believe all His beliefs, you learn His language. That spiritual slice of our lives really tastes like Jesus.

But when Jesus talks about being our Lord, He’s talking about changing the flavor of every slice of your life; how you act at work, at home, at school, what you do with your money, what you do with your talents, what you look at on the internet, what you watch, what you listen to, and what you do with your friends. But, see, you and I live in the Age of Compartmentalization where our beliefs are pretty much one compartment of our life. After all, what are beliefs for? You just believe them, right? And if you believe them, and visit them every Sunday at the Belief Museum, that’s enough, right? “Hey, I really believe this stuff. I really do.” We may not agree openly, but surveys, and just everyday life, show that a lot of us live like our relationship with Jesus is just a slice of our life—an important slice, but just a slice.

In our word for today from the Word of God in Isaiah 1:11, God reveals His shocking reaction to our compartmentalized faith. “’The multitude of your sacrifices—what are they to Me?’ says the Lord... ‘I have no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats... Stop bringing meaningless offerings... When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen.’” Imagine, your Lord calling all your Christian meetings and activities “meaningless”; telling you that all your God-stuff is a waste of time in His eyes—that He’s not going to respond to your prayers.

Here’s the reason. God says, “Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of My sight. Stop doing wrong, learn to do right!” Then God proceeds to name specific areas where their lives do not measure up to their beliefs. The message here is clear. No matter how beautiful the spiritual compartment of your life is, it means nothing when the rest of your life contradicts it.

Your Lord responds to what you live, not just what you believe. And maybe right now He’s seeing how you cheat in your business, how you treat your family, how you watch or listen to portrayals of things that He hates, your racial prejudice, your out-of-control mouth, what you’re doing romantically. And, in His holy eyes, you are neutralizing whatever you’re doing over there in your spiritual compartment of your life.

Jesus asks this blunt question, “Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord” and do not do what I say?’” (Luke 6:46). He bought you with His life. He didn’t pay for just a slice of your life. Either He’s Lord of all or He’s not Lord at all!

Maybe Jesus has only been in your head all these years and you’ve never moved Him to your heart. Which means you're

  • Carter Conlon | A Call to the Nation - The Last Days Wilderness Church

A Vision for the Last Days Church

I want to speak to you this morning from the Song of Solomon. I'm going to begin in Song of Solomon 8:5, about the last days wilderness church.
I happen to believe with all of my heart that in the last days before Christ returns — in the last days before judgment starts to fall on this nation and other nations like it that have vacated truth and embraced perversion and lies — mercy still triumphs over judgment. It doesn't mean judgment doesn't come. It means mercy still triumphs. In essence, anybody who wants to come to Christ is able to do so. Anybody who desires to be free can be free.
I personally believe that there's going to be a church in this last day that's going to be a victorious church, a God-filled people, a people with a mind that is similar to that which Christ would have them to have, a people on a mission to bring redemption — which is the only mission of Christ in the earth — the redemption of the lost, the saving of the lost, and the discipling of those who are new to Christ. That is the mission of the church.
The mission of the church is not to be personally comfortable. It's not to gather wealth to ourselves. It's not to dig some bunker somewhere and fill it with cans of beans so we can survive the coming days. The church's mission is to be empowered by the Spirit of God and to go into this world and make a difference. And by the grace of God, this last day will have a church.

    Coming Out of the Wilderness

In the Song of Solomon, the writer records these words in Song of Solomon 8:5: Who is this coming up from the wilderness, leaning on her beloved?
The writer saw something. He saw a bride coming out of a dry place, a wilderness place, leaning on the bridegroom. And this is a pictorial type of what we're going to see in these last days. We're going to see a church coming out of dry places, coming out of a wilderness place, leaning on Jesus Christ — a victorious church, a worshiping church, a church with life and joy, a church with a message, a church with an empowerment of the Holy Spirit to do things that can only be done by the Spirit of God.
I am speaking prophetically today. I know when the Holy Spirit is upon me. I know when God's Spirit is flowing through me and speaking a message to His people.
Now, not everyone who goes to church is going to be part of the awakening that we're about to experience. But those who belong to Christ will see it and know it.

    What the Wilderness Is

The wilderness is a place in between where we used to be and where we're called to be. That's where Israel was for a season — a long season they weren't supposed to be in, but ended up in. They were set free by the sovereign power of God from that which was determined to hold them captive and make them slaves to its power.
And that's where many of you were. I was a slave to alcohol. I was a slave to lust. I was a slave to fear — whatever it was in your life. But God sovereignly came and touched your life and set you free. And it was because of the blood of Jesus Christ. It wasn't by any work of righteousness that you or I have done. It's the blood and the mercy of God that brought us out of where we used to be.
What was supposed to be a short season ended up being 40 years for a whole generation because they would not go into the place that was promised them.
Now, you and I are promised life. We're promised eternal life. We're promised an abundant life. We're promised a reason to live. We're promised that our lives are supposed to bring glory to God — how? By God indwelling us by His Holy Spirit, giving us His Word, taking us where we can't go, making us into what we could never be, and giving us what we could never naturally possess. That people look at us and they see the reality of God — not an argument about God, but the actual reality of God's willingness to show mercy in every generation.
The wilderness is that place between our past and our
