The history of Native Americans, who occupied the continent thousands of years before The Mayflower or Christopher Columbus set sail for the Americas, is often forgotten. 

As the anniversary of independence approaches, debate is intensifying over whose stories are being told,  and whose are being left out, as Native American historians push for an honest reckoning with the past and ongoing injustices.
