The Red-Green Axis: Communism and Islam United to Destroy the West

A Conversation with Frank Gaffney, Trevor Loudon and Robert Spencer

On July 19, 2025, the American Freedom Alliance hosted a compelling and urgent discussion in Los Angeles.

This thought-provoking event featured a panel of distinguished experts—Frank Gaffney, Trevor Loudon, and Robert Spencer—who explored the convergence of communism, Islamism, and globalism in their efforts to undermine Judeo-Christian values and Western civilization.
Moderated by Dr. Karen Siegemund, President of the AFA, the conversation delved into the ideological threats posed by this "red-green axis," the impact of unchecked immigration, the decline of faith in Western societies, and the rise of radical ideologies in the U.S. and Europe. The panelists highlighted historical contexts, current global threats, and the urgent need for strong governance and a reaffirmation of national identity to counter these challenges. Despite the sobering outlook, the discussion concluded with signs of hope, emphasizing the resilience of Western values and the power of informed resistance.

Frank Gaffney is the founder and executive chairman of the Center for Security Policy, a leading think tank focused on national security issues. A former Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Reagan, Gaffney is a prominent voice on the threats posed by globalist and totalitarian ideologies, including the intersection of communism and Islamism. He hosts Securing America on Real America’s Voice and is a prolific author and commentator on issues of national defense and cultural preservation.

Trevor Loudon is a New Zealand-based author, speaker, and political activist renowned for his extensive research into communist and socialist movements worldwide. His books, including The Enemies Within and Security Risk Senators, expose the influence of radical ideologies in Western politics. Loudon’s innovative strategies for combating foreign infiltration and his global perspective make him a sought-after commentator on the threats facing democratic societies.

Robert Spencer is the director of Jihad Watch and a bestselling author of over 20 books, including The History of Jihad and The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades). A leading expert on Islamic theology and history, Spencer provides critical insights into the political and cultural implications of Sharia supremacy and its role in global ideological conflicts.

Dr. Karen Siegemund is the President of the American Freedom Alliance, an organization dedicated to defending Western values and promoting liberty. With a background in education and a passion for fostering informed discourse, Dr. Siegemund skillfully guided the panel through this critical discussion, ensuring a dynamic and engaging exploration of the red-green axis and its implications for the West.

  • History in the News Episode 8: Reaganism: Its Myths and Realities

This is the eighth and final video in the AFA "History in the News" series hosted by Victor Davis Hanson. In this episode:

The mythology surrounding Ronald Reagan and his presidency obscures the reality that he was neither a die-hard conservative nor a dangerous reactionary, but a gifted traditionalist whose pragmatism,
communications skills and mastery of compromise allowed him to achieve what was possible rather than dream about what was not.

  • History in the News Episode 6: Why Do Millions Emigrate to the West?

This is the sixth video in the AFA "History in the News" series hosted by Victor Davis Hanson. In this episode:

When people vote with their feet, they vote for the West. It's been true for centuries, and it remains true today: Non-Westerners emigrate to Western societies in vast numbers seeking personal freedom and a better life. But when people immigrate here illegally, and then resist assimilation after they arrive, they undermine the rationale that drew them here in the first place.

  • History in the News Episode 5: How To Check Western Military Advantage

This is the fifth video in the AFA "History in the News" series hosted by Victor Davis Hanson. In this episode:

For some 2,500 years, Western militaries have enjoyed innate advantages over their rivals. But on occasion, non-Westerners have obtained Western weapons, encouraged anti-war movements among Western populaces, turned Western nations against one another, and used the law of asymmetry to make a Western victory difficult. So, while the West still reigns supreme on the conventional battlefield, it does not always win its wars.

  • DEI, Historical Revisionism and the Death of Truth: Dr Peter Wood

In this episode of the American Freedom Alliance's Parresia podcast, Dr. Karen Siegemund welcomes Dr. Peter Wood, President of the National Association of Scholars, to discuss the state of education in America. With a shared commitment to bold and truthful discourse, they explore the fundamental purpose of education, from K-12 to higher education, and its role in laying the moral and intellectual foundations for a good life. Dr. Wood reflects on the erosion of Western civilization as a core organizing principle in education, the rise of utilitarian and ideological influences, and the impact of movements like diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and anti-Semitism on campuses. The conversation also delves into the manipulation of historical narratives, such as the 1619 Project, countered by Dr. Wood’s book 1620, and the broader societal implications of educational decline, including susceptibility to ideological narratives and social hysteria, as seen during the COVID-19 era. Dr. Wood shares his optimism about recent efforts to restore accountability in education and recommends three timeless books—Don Quixote, Huckleberry Finn, and Moby Dick—to inspire deeper understanding of the human condition and American character. Join us for a thought-provoking discussion on reclaiming the pursuit of truth in education.

Peter Wood is the President of the National Association of Scholars. Dr. Wood is an anthropologist and former provost. He was appointed president of the NAS in January 2009. Before that, he served as NAS’s executive director (2007-2008), and as provost of The King’s College in New York City (2005-2007).

Dr. Wood was a tenured member of the Anthropology Department at Boston University, where he also held a variety of administrative positions, including associate provost and president’s chief of staff. He also oversaw the university’s scholarly publications and served as acting university librarian.
He received his Ph.D. in anthropology in 1987 from the University of Rochester. His dissertation, Quoting Heaven, examined the emergence of an American folk religion and pilgrimage center in rural Wisconsin. His undergraduate degree is from Haverford College (1975) and he has a master’s degree in library science from Rutgers University (1977).
Dr. Wood is the author of Wrath: America Enraged, 1620: A Critical Response to the 1619 Project, A Bee in the Mouth: Anger in America Now, and of Diversity: The Invention of a Concept which won the Caldwell Award for Leadership in Higher Education from the John Locke Foundation. These books extend his anthropological interest in examining emergent themes in modern American culture.
In addition to his scholarly work, Dr. Wood has published several hundred articles in print and online journals, such as Wall Street Journal, The Spectator, Partisan Review and National Review Online, and the Chronicle of Higher Education.

This is the fourth video in the AFA "History In the News" series hosted by Victor Davis Hanson. In this episode:

Astronomical costs, partisan politics and the inability to graduate literate students all characterize the modern university. The solution will require a redefinition of higher education and the end of college
    as we know it.

  • History in the News Episode 3: Lessons from California

This is the third video in the AFA "History in the News" series hosted by Victor Davis Hanson In this episode:

People used to write hit songs about the wonder that was California. Not any more. How did a state with so much inherited and natural wealth manage to squander its advantages? Do the math: California has some of the highest taxes in the nation, yet it also has the worst services, public infrastructure and schools. By over-regulating its businesses, putting it natural resources off limits, allowing unions to control its schools and public employees, and letting in millions of illegal aliens, Californians have nearly impoverished their once-wealthy state.
