“Come to Jesus”
We recap and discuss episode 108.
There’s so much Jesus in this episode. American Gods completely switches tracks in the final episode of season 1. We can’t even.
Wednesday and Shadow get new suits, Mr. Nancy tells a story, and Easter holds a Jesus party, and all of the major players are in attendance. And seriously, we can’t even. It’s been a long, strange trip to the end of season one, and we’re still aboard.
We’ll get back to the novel soon. We’re still trying to wrap our heads around the show. Also, Twin Peaks.

“A Prayer for Mad Sweeney”
We recap and discuss episode 107.
In the penultimate episode of season 1, we learn quite a bit about Mad Sweeney. We think. It’s really more about Essie McGowan, but Mad Sweeney plays an important part in her life, as well as an important part in the death of Laura Moon.
We’ll get back to the novel after the first season of the TV show is over.

“A Murder of Gods”
We recap and discuss episode 106.
A Murder of Gods is the furthest we’ve gone from the source material. There is nothing from the book in this episode (aside from why Salim hates New York). We see a really disturbing dichotomy of Christianity. Wednesday and Shadow see what happens when a god gets an upgrade (or a Lemon Scented You), and meet a whole town full of white, racist, gun-loving Americans. We assume they’re racist, and we agree that white, racist, and gun-loving does not always go together. But it does in Vulcan, Virginia. We also get a second road trip group as Laura, Mad Sweeny, and Salim join up and hit the road.
Also, Brian Reitzell is the music supervisor and composer of American Gods, and is doing just a fantastic job.
We’ll get back to the novel after the first season of the TV show is over.

“Lemon Scented You”
We recap and discuss episode 5.
Last week, we again ended the episode with the recently deceased Laura Moon sitting on the edge of Shadow’s bed. This time, we move forward. Shadow throws a pillow. Laura throws a Leprechaun. Mr. World throws a bone. Wednesday throws it away. Media throws a kiss. The Technical Boy throws his teeth.

“The Secret of Spoons”
We are way too white to fully grasp some deeper truths of tonight’s episode, but we try. We meet Robbie’s cock (but not Robbie), Lucille Ricardo (but not her tits), Mr. Nancy, Czernobog, the Zoryas (two of them, anyway), and discuss how looking for too much meaning in lists may lead to madness.
Delayed due to an unexpected road trip, we’ll be back on a Sunday schedule with episode three.
