Andrew tries to persuade our swing state friends ( and Steve) to vote for Donald Trump. Pro-life issues, economics, and overall impact to life as everyday Americans are discussed.
The open letter written by Kevin's MIL:
I find myself overwhelmed by the state of our nation and the upcoming elections. “What can I do anyway?” I hear many lament. “I’m tired of politics… I do not have time for this… have we lost America?”
I have encountered these comments recently regarding our country’s future. Just this past June, Mexico held its presidential elections, and unfortunately, Andrés Manuel López Obrador's party won. He is a president whose communist ideologies mirror those of Maduro. Friends from Venezuela warned us years ago: “Watch out; Obrador is following Maduro’s path. The next step will be to change the Constitution.” Tragically, many influential Catholic figures in Mexico advised against voting for the alternative, claiming she was equally unworthy. Instead, they urged Catholics to abstain from voting altogether, dismissing the “lesser of two evils” approach.
Why do I share this? Because that misguided counsel allowed Obrador’s party, Morena, to win not just the presidency, but also a supermajority in both the Senate and the House. The consequences are terrible; they have now approved constitutional changes, steering Mexico down a path toward communism, just like my friend told me. It breaks my heart to witness the dismantling of what was once a conservative, Catholic nation. Sadly, Mexicans have the leader they choose. Today, I saw a meme that suggested Obrador will begin his new term by working from home while Claudia Sheinbaum, the new president, assumes power…
In contrast, I’ve heard from friends in Argentina about their nation’s terrible economic crisis, marked by over 140% inflation and pervasive government corruption. Yet this year, hope returned as Javier Milei won the presidency with 55.65% of the vote, leading the nation towards a brighter future.
With these examples in mind, I find myself questioning: Do I want America to follow Mexico’s path or Argentina’s? There’s no doubt—I desire the success of Argentina!
As an American citizen, this will be my third time voting. In the past, I approached it passively, simply praying and casting my ballot on November 5th. I felt overwhelmed and powerless, a busy mom just trying to homeschool my children and serve God.
“The faithful have an obligation to vote for the lesser of two evils. However, that’s not the same as voting for evil. What you’re voting for is to preserve the good that would be lost if the other opponent—who is more evil—were to win.”
As St. Joan of Arc wisely said, “The struggle may be long and arduous, but the victory will be all the sweeter.”
After careful consideration, I’ve decided to switch from Independent to Republican to volunteer as a poll watcher. I heard they need a lot of volunteers that day. I will vote early—having already requested my mail-in ballot—but will personally deliver it to the County Elections Office because I don’t trust any other method.
I urge all of us to take action this time and hold onto hope! I’m reminded of The Lord of the Rings, where Tolkien illustrates God’s Divine Providence intervening, but only when the characters in the story do their part. Otherwise, the eagles would have come much earlier to help them! I admire Aragorn, who never loses hope, regardless of how slim the chances of victory may seem.
His rallying call at the black gate resonates with me:
“Sons of Gondor! Of Rohan! My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of Men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Men comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!”
