In an innovative approach, Dr. Lewis and his colleagues Dr. Bernstein and Dr. Gustafson, determined that homes exposed to sea level rise sell for approximately 7% less than equivalent unexposed properties. The research also shows that this SLR discount has grown over time and is driven by sophisticated buyers and communities worried about global warming. As impacts from Hurricane Ida continue to be assessed, Pontchartrain Conservancy's Water Quality Program Director Brady Skaggs discusses how the storm affected water quality across the region and what actions you can take to improve water quality in nearby waterways. On this episode, Peter Ravella and Tyler Buckingham talk to Dr. Karen Martin about the response and potential impacts of the Huntington Oil Spill that occurred off the coast of Southern California on October 1, 2021. So far, it seems that a  a 17.7-mile oil pipeline connecting offshore oil Platform Elly with the shore had been possibly dragged by a ship's anchor resulting in an estimated 3,100 barrels of oil being spilled. Dr. Martin, a marine biology professor at Pepperdine University, has experience working in the aftermath of the 2015 Rufigio Oil Spill, which occurred just up the coast and was approximately the same size, with 2,500 barrels of oil being spilled. Discussed are the causes of oil spills, what happens to oil when it enters coastal environments, cleanup methods, and the long term impacts of oil in the environment. 

NOAA recently announced that summer 2021 was the hottest on record. During this episode, Jenna is joined by Taylour Chang and Nā‘ālehu Anthony to explore the visually dynamic and spiritually arresting, Artists of Hawai‘i Now exhibition at the Honolulu Museum of Art, featuring  bold, boundary-pushing works from 18 artists. This exhibition couldn't be timelier. It provides an urgent and necessary call to act on topics that are challenging our world—Indigenous rights, the environment, and a range of social concerns.
