The highly controversial Loomer won the Republican nomination for a Florida US House seat this week.

Arthur Rizer from the R. Street Institute discusses his new research regarding what many call the militarization of police in America. Rizer, a military veteran with combat experience and a former police officer, argues that increasing the military-grade weaponry for law enforcement leads to more violence with police. He also explains why he feels blurring the lines between traditional police imagery and that of a soldier is bad for officers themselves.

Laurence Reed from the Foundation for Economic Education discusses the push for increasing mail in voting for this year’s presidential election. He argues against the idea both for election security & integrity reasons and for reasons of civic duty.

Specifically, the effort by California lawmakers to require Uber and Lyft to provide full employment benefits (insurance, minimum wage, paid time off, etc) to drivers who are currently contractors. Claar explains the market demands being met and unmet and the possible unintended consequences of not updating our regulatory approach.
