The Western Church, and American churches in particular, have become too smart for God. They think that, because a teaching might not make sense to their natural mind, it cannot be true. Though they mask this negligence in "intelligence", it's clear to see that the reason they oppose sound teaching is because the don't want to believe it. This is especially true of the cancer of cessationism: the belief that the gifts and miracles of the Holy Spirit have ceased and are no longer to be expected in the believer's life today.
