I started a new job with the Archdiocese of Las Vegas! Woohoo! Neil and I talk about my new job, then the state of Youth Ministry and Confirmation and we make arguments for and against restored order 66 (lol, you’ll get it if you listen). This led us to talking about the importance of Youth Group as growth in discipleship.

The conversation turns to formation for adults and young adult formation in the diocese and turning the emphasis to small group communities that lead to events rather than events to form small groups and how this might actually encourage continual growth.

We begin by watching the Knights play the Panthers in overtime of game 3 of the Stanley cup, and there is a point in our discussion where the game ends and Neil gets really sad. Then we start talkin about how our diocese has been elevated to become the 34th Archdiocese in the USA. We answer some questions that people have asked us about the change:

I know there was some cool Catholic stuff about the diocese of Las Vegas becoming the 34th Archdiocese in the US and we’ll get to that and Neil and I plan on releasing an episode about that next week.

In this episode Neil and I talk about what’s really important…The Rankin/Bass movie from 1982 “Flight of Dragons”. I know you’ve never seen it, I know you’ve never heard of it, but it’s a fairytale that marks the beginning of the modern broken fairytale and the conversion of Magic into Science. We have an interesting conversion, but keep in mind, we’re both a few whiskeys in at this point…

I quit my job and don’t know how to feel. On and off we talk about the right ritual to end my youth ministry career interspersed with some comic book and movie references like we do.

Neil and I argue about Lent. Turns out Neil is right, but the season of Lent isn’t 40 days, however the start of Lent was put on a Wednesday so that there would be 40 penitential Days even though those day cross two liturgical seasons Lent & Triduum.

Anyway, this will be a 2 part episode that will conclude at our next release where we'll talk about how college is a scam, proper confirmation retreats, and Dylan's CoVid panic attacks.

I’m drinking nothing but water while I teach this class on the Sacramental Economy. I take a quote from the Catechism (CCC 1131) and break it open showing the Old Testament prefigures, how Jesus perfect it, and how through the Holy Spirit all that belongs to Jesus is given to us for his glory (Jn 16:14). I close off with the reciprocal nature of the Sacraments, how we are not mercenaries working for blessing, but rather we approach the sacraments in the spirit of thanksgiving and in the obedience of Faith.

It’s a nerd one, so if you like the nerdy Catholic stuff this is the episode for you. Neil and I will get together soon to record a new one for you!

So had a dramatic couple of weeks and Neil and I haven't gotten together to record a fresh episode, but we did record this intro to the Sacraments of Initiation that was intended for high school freshmen.

We had a great conversation and in a very basic way broke down the three sacraments of initation. Enjoy!!!
