Amos, who is from the countryside of Judea in the Southern Kingdom is bringing a hard message from the LORD to the elite of the Northern Kingdom. Based on who is delivering the message and the hardness of the message, this upper-class elite would not be very receptive of what God's prophet had to say.
In the midst of this hard yet true message, God offers to the Northern Kingdom an opportunity to repent. They are told that if they seek the LORD they would live. They were encouraged to seek good not evil. The were encouraged to hate evil and love good.
God is still the same. God still extends the offer of repentance to the backslider, to the apostate, to the transgressor. For all who truly seek the LORD, they will live.
