We now begin a study in the book of I Timothy. This is the first for three letters written by Paul, referred to as the pastoral epistles. These were written towards the end of Paul's ministry and his life on earth. While his writings are primarily for the pastor/leader in the church, this letter is meant for the whole church. 

The first thing that Paul addresses is doctrine. Good doctrine comes from the word of God. Thus, God's word is paramount in the life of the believer. It is paramount in the life of the pastor. And it must be central in the church.

In this study we have set before us two wonderful examples worthy of emulation. First, we have Simeon, a man well advanced in years who was just and devout. A man filled with the Holy Spirit and led by the Spirit. A man who saw Jesus.

Next, we have Anna. She also is well advanced in years. She has been brutalized by the hardships of life. However, the hardships have made her better. They have deepened her faith. And because of this she also has seen Jesus.

Both were old and advanced in years. Both ministered before the Lord in obscurity and yet both were used greatly in the first coming of Jesus. No one is ever too old to be used by God. No true service to God is obscure in His sight.

As we conclude our study in the letters to the Thessalonians, there are a few take aways.

First, a person is never too young in the Lord to grow and mature in the Lord. This was a young church. Paul held nothing back. He taught them deep theology and doctrine. Paul was a man who never held anything back. He always presented the whole counsel of God.

With that said, we can never over stress the importance of God's word in the life of the believer. We must spend time in God's word. We must know how to interpret God's word. And we must always live in obedience to God's word regardless of cost or consequence. 

Finally, Paul placed great emphasis on the return of Christ. Do you believe that we are on the precipice of the return of Christ. If so, then live your life accordingly. Let us live every day for Jesus to the fullest.

In this study we look at the birth of Jesus. Caeser Augustus has given a command that all the world is to be registered. The whole world moves at his command, including Mary and Joseph. Mary is so close to giving birth, yet she and Joseph must go to Bethlehem. 

Although the command was given by the most powerful man in the world, it was all done under the sovereignty of God. It is time for Jesus to be born. God has moved the heart of Augustus. This command will place Mary exactly where the prophet Micah had prophesied. God is in control.

God has not changed, As the return of Christ hastens, we can know for a certainty that God is in control. The hearts of all the world's rulers are in God's hands. Everything happening in our world today is preparing the way for the return of Christ.

Paul reminds us that we have been greatly loved by God. God chose us before the foundation of the world. In response, we choose to believe the truth of God's word, the truth of the gospel. As we believe, we come to know that we have been obtained for the glory of Jesus.

In light of this, we are to stand fast and hold firm to the word of God. This is key to living the victorious Christian life. Regardless of the circumstances that surround us or the environment we are living in we should be living in the victory of Jesus. How? By knowing God's word and living in obedience to His word regardless of cost or consequence.

We continue to look at Mary, Elizabeth and Zacharias. The Holy Spirit is doing a great work in each of them as the way for the Messiah is being prepared.

Mary upon finding out that she will become pregnant as a virgin and give birth to the Messiah, almost immediately goes to visit her older cousin Elizabeth. When she greets Elizabeth, John leaps for joy within the womb of Elizabeth. Elizabeth is immediately filled with the Holy Spirit and cries out in praises to God and blessings upon Mary.

After this initial meeting, Mary puts forth a prayer in the form of a song. It is called the magnificat. In this song of prayer, we see the incredible spiritual depth of Mary. It is an amazing prayer for this young mother to be from Nazareth,

Finally, we see Zacharias, receiving his speech after the birth of John the Baptist, immediately breaking forth in praise to God. He follows his praise with a song of prayer as well. During this season of chastisement, God has been working in the life of Zacharias.

Here, in these three people, we see how God first works in us that He might work through us.

We now conclude this section. Paul has made clear to the Thessalonians that the day of the LORD will not come until first the great falling away takes place. Secondly, not until the church is raptured prior to the man of sin being revealed.

We must understand that as the return of Christ hastens, we will be entering into some incredibly difficult and dangerous times. The deception we see today will increase rapidly. The hatred for Christ and His church will increase almost unchecked. Yes, the church will be raptured off this earth, but not before we see some perilous times.

How do we prepare for this time we are entering into? We must determine now that we will be faithful unto death. We must also determine that we will live in obedience to Jesus and His word regardless of cost or consequence. Now, like never before, we need to know God's word and live in obedience to His word.

We now begin a study in the gospel according to Luke. It is the most comprehensive of the gospels written in a common language that all can understand. While Luke was a highly gifted and educated man, he did not want people to be impressed with his writing ability, he wanted people to know and understand who Jesus is.

As we begin this gospel, we are introduced to Zacharias and Elizabeth. Both are well advanced in years, yet they will be the parents of John the Baptist. As we meet them, we see how God is faithful to answer prayer, even prayer that has long been forgotten.

We are also introduced to Mary, this amazing lady who is blessed among women. She is impressive in so many ways. In this study we look at the humble obedience she displays. An example for us all.

In this study we take another look at the rapture of the church. We look at the principle behind the rapture, and we look at the timing of the rapture. It is a topic that does have controversy. However, we encourage you to study the scriptures, commit it to prayer and let the Holy Spirit be your teacher. 

We also look at the comfort that the rapture and the day of the Lord should bring to every believer. Satan will be destroyed in the end. Jesus will defeat him completely with the breath of His mouth and the brightness of His coming. This is the comfort of the rapture. 

We live in exciting times. Look up, our salvation draws near.

The people in Malachi's day had grown disappointed since the prophesies of Haggai and Zecheriah had yet to be fulfilled. As a result, they now neglected God's word. They had no regard for God's name. They were walking by sight and not by faith. 

As believers, we must stay true to Jesus and His word. We must remember that God's word never fails. That Jesus never fails. True faith does not put a time line on the promised of God. True faith simply believes God's promises knowing that they will be fulfilled completely, exactly and in God's perfect timing.

May we all walk by faith.
