Paul continues to address the return of Jesus. He now transitions from what they did not know, the rapture of the church, to what they do know, the Day of the Lord.

All teaching regarding the return of Christ should bring comfort to us as believers. Not only should it bring comfort, but it should build us up in our walk with Jesus. Any believer not comforted or edified by the knowledge of the return of Christ should be a concern.

May we all truly walk with the Lord in these last of the last days. May we all truly comfort and build one another up based on the truth found in Jesus and His word. May the study of the return of Christ be at the center of our studies.

As we continue to study the last three chapters of Zechariah, we see clearly that the day of the Lord is soon to be upon us. Everything in the world is lining up for that day, the day when Jesus comes again.

Some see the world as being out of control. But as we study passages like the one before us, we can know for certain that God is in control

Are you ready for the return of Jesus? Are you running the race to win? Is your hand to the plough with no looking back?

  • Terms and Interpretations

In a previous study we took the time to review what good hermeneutics are. Hermeneutics is a big word that simply means how we study and interpret the scriptures. From this we were able to take a biblical look at the distinction between Israel and the church. All of this is critical if we are to have a correct biblical view of prophesy.

This week, we came back to topical technical study rather than our normal verse by verse. In this study we looked at several prophetic terms, the millennium, the second advent and the rapture of the church. From here we looked at the different interpretations concerning the timing of the rapture. This was an overview utilizing good hermeneutics.

Why do we take the time to do this? So that you will know why you believe what you believe according to the scriptures. We don't want you to a person who says, "this is what my pastor says" or "this is what my pastor believes". We want you to be a person who says, "this is what the bible says".

As we come to the last three chapters of Zechariah, the prophies now center on the return of Jesus. It begins with God affirming His power, sovereignty and the fact that He alone is the infinite, almighty creator of everything seen and unseen. This is critical as these prophesies unfold.

One thing that stands out concerning Israel in the last days is that the whole world will be against her. The whole world will seek her destruction. But Israel belongs to God. Throughout this passage we see God saying "I will" on behalf of Israel

Israel cannot be defeated. Every nation that comes up against Israel will be defeated because the God of Israel fights on her behalf. How can anyone expect to have victory of Israel.

This passage along with I Corinthians 15:50-58 are the foundation for the doctrine of the rapture. This is a doctrine that falls under eschatology, the biblical study surrounding the return of Jesus.

While the rapture sadly is surrounded by some controversy, in truth, it should not be. A solid study of the scriptures reveals with great clarity this wonderful doctrine.

As Paul delivers this passage to the Thessalonians, he tells them that is meant to bring them comfort. It is meant to comfort us in the days that we are living. As we study the rapture of the church, may we all receive comfort from it.

Sadly, the incredible blessings that God has in store for Israel have been delayed. Delayed due to their rejection of Jesus as His first coming. They rejected the true, good shepherd.

As a result, they will receive the foolish and worthless shepherd. They, for a time will receive the Antichrist. It will be a terrible and dark time for the nation. Our choices have consequences.

Thank God for His covenant with His people, Israel. God will ultimately deliver and restore His nation, Israel. What a glorious future they have when they finally receive Jesus, their true shepherd, their true Messiah.

  • I Thessalonians: A refresher on the basics

We are currently entering a section of scripture that covers much prophesy in depth. Our present passage deals with the doctrine of the rapture. Both prophesy and the rapture are subjects familiar with controversy. What we would like to do in this study is to revisit a key basic, how we study and interpret the bible. It is critical that as a believer, you know what you believer and why you believe it according to the scriptures.

Once that is established, we would like to discuss biblically one of the largest controversies in bible prophesy, the distinction between Israel and the Church. This is a subject that will impact your understanding of the Bible. It will also impact your world view.

As all this information is put before you, we pray that you will be a Berean and search the scriptures for yourself.

We now begin a new section of Zechariah. These last six chapters will focus on prophesies concerning the first and second coming of Jesus. As we look at the prophesies fulfilled in the first coming of Jesus, we can be encouraged to know that the prophesies concerning His second coming will be fulfilled exactly.

Biblical prophecy is history written before it happens. Only God can do this. Based on God's word, we have wonderful days before us. May God grant us the strength to live faithfully in the days leading up to His return.

In this study, we begun by continuing to look at our Christian walk. A solid walk in Christ is critical to our witness for Christ. Nothing is more powerful in our Christian witness then our walk in Christ.

We looked at the need to increase in our brotherly love for one another. The way we increase in our brotherly love is by aspiring to lead a quiet life, minding our own business and working with our own hands. This is a command that when obeyed will cause our brotherly love to increase more and more.

From here, we began to look at the doctrine of the rapture. This is a wonderful doctrine that will bring comfort to us. In our next few studies, we will take a deep biblical look at this great doctrine.

In this study, the people present a question to God concerning traditional fast that they began while in captivity. These fast were supposedly for God. The question they pose is should they continue this tradition.

God sends four messages through Zechariah before he gives the answer. God has to prepare their hearts before giving them the answer. The answer is simple, you are to no longer fast, you are to have joy, gladness and a cheerful feast.

Traditions, no matter how well intended, puts the focus on self. Worship gives the glory to God. God desires reality not ritual.
