In this episode of Amplify Humanity, it’s all about Pride! Pride Month is a time of celebration and uplift for the LGBTQIA Community. Pride month occurs in June as a commemoration of the Stone Wall Riots of the 1960s, where Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera were at the helm of the movement.

Today in 2022, when several states are passing the Don’t Say, Gay Bill, we are reminding you to SAY GAY! Queer culture will not be erased. "Don’t Say Gay" bills aren’t new, they’ve just been revived and so we urge you and ourselves to continue to make noise about these bills, normalize non-heteronormative beliefs and discussions, and ultimately understand that there are many ways we can destigmatize openness and fluidity in gender identity and sexual orientation.

We are also highlighting queer art and pop culture with Legendary on HBO Max, A Queer Chaplin Podcast, Nancy Podcast, and Strange Loop on Broadway!

On this episode, we're excited to center Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) history and podcasts this week! Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is observed during the month of May, as it recognizes the contributions, culture, and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. May was chosen specifically because it commemorates the migration of the first immigrants from Japan to the United States on May 7, 1843, and because it honors the completion of the transcontinental railroad by over 20,0000 Asian immigrants on May 10, 1869. Moreover, the first Asian immigrants arrived in the U.S. in 1587 when Filipinos first began migrating to California. Immigrants continued to come from the Asian continent and the Pacific Islands through 1920. Happy Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage month!
