This episode is a conversation with Menna Hijazi, an exchange student at the University of Southern Indiana from Gaza, Palestine. It is one of two Palestinian Territories in the Middle East which is located on the Mediterranean sea and borders Egypt. Welcome to AMPLIFY A Cultural Communications Creation with the host, Summer El-Khodary. She is the founder of a non-profit organization called Cultural Communications. Cultural Communications strives to amplify the voices of marginalized communities and have hosted panel discussions with people of diverse backgrounds in the small southern Indiana city of Evansville, Indiana. Panel discussion topics have ranged from living in America to living in Evansville from the perspectives of diverse teens to immigrants. Summer also just recently graduated from college with her Bachelor's in Science in Public Health and is currently applying to graduate school. After the coronavirus hit, she and her team knew diverse people needed to still share their stories and decided the best way to do that was through the creation of a podcast. Summer sits down in this first season with people around the world and in different diverse communities about their experiences with coronavirus. This season also touches on the problems that are still existent within the world and that the media is covering up such as immigration, systemic racism within healthcare, prisons, legal systems, refugees, discrimination, and more.
