Publisher's Summary:
On 5th June 1984, the Indian army began its attack on the complex at Amritsar, which houses the two most sacred shrines. Generals who had pledged to use minimum force and on no account to violate the shrines were not prepared for the fierce and adept resistance they encountered. Having suffered severe casualties, the infantry were driven back, and as a last resort - with approval from Delhi - tanks were ordered in. The Akal Takht was virtually reduced to rubble. It is doubtful if Mrs Gandhi would have initiated Operation Blue Star had she known how bloody and devastating the consequences of that 24-hour conflict would be.
Members Reviews:
Very well written and gives unbiased view of reasons for operation Blue star.
Its a book everyone interested in Punjab and Punjab's history as well as future shall read to know how politics is played with sentiments and can destroy entire nation, generation. What happened in Punjab and who were the players is clearly outlined. Book do not becomes even once as it criticizes Govt. of Punjab, Central Govt , Bhindranwale , Tohra, Longowal as well as Badals who are now cruising in the Ship of Bhindranwale at the same time do not leaves Military for its atrocities as well as the limitation they had in dealing the situation which was out of control.

An objective as well as heartfelt account
This was a difficult period for India. The book shows how the political leadership behaved, particularly Mrs.Indira Gandhi. It achieves the difficult mean between maintaining an emotional link with the subject and also maintaining a journalistic objectivity.
Recommended reading for all those who wish well for India and want to understand that period
