In this sermon, we consider Jesus’ teaching on what it truly means to be His disciple in a world that opposes His truth. We will see three marks of true discipleship: a disciple imitates Christ even in rejection and suffering, fears God rather than men by boldly confessing Christ, and is willing to lose everything, even life himself, for the sake of following Him. Ultimately, this passage confronts us with the cost of discipleship and calls us to a wholehearted commitment to Jesus above all else.

In doing so, we are confronted with our inability to walk perfectly in God’s ways on our own, and are pointed to Jesus Christ, who fulfilled all righteousness and provides forgiveness, peace, and eternal security to all who trust in Him.
