In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells His disciples that they have been told an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth, but that they should instead turn the other cheek and offer no resistance to evil. This is what Jesus has done for us. When we’ve struck Him, He’s turned the other cheek and allowed us to strike Him again. When we could have been brought before the bar of justice, God gave us of His spirit to help us to get through the situation, even if we were guilty. God loves us, and He forgives, heals, and restores.
