September 18, 2026 “The Lord is near to all who call upon him” - Readings for Sunday, 9/20/26
The Lord is near to all who call upon Him.
So we say in this Sunday’s Responsorial Psalm. When we call upon the Lord, He draws very near to us. His greatness is beyond our understanding. He’s gracious. He’s merciful. He’s slow to anger. He’s of great kindness. He’s just. He’s holy. And He’s near.
Take advantage of this God who so loves us. Draw near to him. Take advantage of his offer.
He wants you to draw near to him.

September 17, 2026 “God forgives all!” - Readings for 9/17/26
In today’s Gospel, Jesus is greeted by a sinful woman, who anoints his feet with precious oils. She begins to weep in His presence, and Jesus says her sins are forgiven.
God is not put off when we turn to him and when we cry out to him. He forgives all. If we recognize that we are weak and sinful and trust ourselves to God, we will obtain His grace and forgiveness.
The woman in today’s Gospel was humble. She knew her sin. She admitted it. She didn’t excuse it. She begged forgiveness by serving Jesus.
God’s mercy is infinitely greater than any guilt of ours.
Let’s not be so mired in sin that we’re blinded and deafened like this Pharisee was.
Let us run to the sacrament of reconciliation to receive the forgiveness and the mercy of God.

September 16, 2026 “A still more excellent way” - Readings for 9/16/26
In today’s first reading, St Paul warns us about how we speak. It doesn’t matter how clever or inspired our words are - if we speak without love, we are nothing but a clashing cymbal. We are empty noise. If we act without love, our actions are empty. If I don’t have love, I gain nothing.

September 15, 2026 “She is the Mother of Sorrows!” - Readings for 9/15/26
Today we follow the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross with the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows.
Mary stood faithfully at the foot of the Cross and watched her beloved Son die for the sake of the world.
We’ve all experienced sorrows in this life. Unite your sorrow with Mary’s before the face of the Father. She is your mother and she has known great sorrow. But she stood with Jesus until the very end. She never turned away. She will give you strength to endure your crosses. She is the mother of sorrows.

September 14, 2026 The Cross reveals God’s love - readings for 9/14/26
Today is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. It’s a marvelous feast, because it is on the cross where God in Christ showed us most clearly His love for us.
Do you ever just sit back and think, “someone died for me?” My life is that precious. God did not die for billions. He died for every single one of us.
Someone died for you that you might live eternally. Today we celebrate that.

September 10, 2026 “The source of life is not in me.” - Readings for 9/10/26
Today’s First Reading gives us instructions about avoiding idolatry. We are not the source of our own life. The source of our life is in God, and we need to acknowledge that and life it out. We can be weakened by sin. Others can be weakened by sin and be unaware of it. And when we fail to assist them, we are sinning against Christ. Be conscious of the needs of others.

Today’s Gospel includes the Beatitudes. Jesus tells us that suffering in this life will lead to blessings in the next. We must remember that we are not made for this world. We can’t try to set up a permanent dwelling here. We are pilgrims. This is not our lasting home. Our lasting home is heaven.

September 08, 2026 “Thank God for our Blessed Mother” - Readings for 9/8/26
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Mother. It’s a great day to thank God for the mother He has given us – and then to imitate her obedience to God’s will.
What are our priorities? Are we fixed on the Kingdom of God? Or are we distracted? Are we torn and pulled apart by the values of the world that we can’t give up? Are we living one way and professing another?
A good mother prays for her children. Mary is the best of mothers. And she prays for us. Go to her frequently with your needs.

In the Responsorial Palm this Sunday, we reflect on how we should respond to God’s call. “If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts.”That applies to us hearing the Lord. And it applies to our role as God’s messengers. It may be through us that others hear God’s message for them.

Srve an obligation not only to live righteously but to help others in a loving and compassionate way.
If a brother or sister sins against us, we have an obligation to let them know they have done wrong.
“O God, by whom we are redeemed and receive adoption, look graciously upon your beloved sons and daughters, that those who believe in Christ may receive true freedom and an everlasting inheritance.”
