An Icon For Advent…and PIE!
Hey folks – this week is an ‘online only” morning, so make sure that if you have things you want the community to know you post them to our Facebook page. This is presently our best way of keeping one another in touch regarding our personal circumstances, challenges, joys, etc. It’s not the same thing as face to face, of course, but it’s what we have and I want to encourage us all to take advantage of it.
Ok – brace yourself for lots of details:
This Sunday we’ll start with some music at 10:45, move to Community Time (we’ll read what you posted), and then on to the Talky Bit. That will all happen here.
In the Talky Bit we’ll be considering what may be a culturally distant practice to many of us; that of using icons to deepen our spirituality. As is often the case, we’ll be considering a different point of view than the one usually present in the Christian tradition; a perspective that challenges some long-standing norms and assumptions. Not quite a typical Advent conversation, but then who says we need to do that?
Next week (the 19th), will be our “Not Quite Christmas” gathering. I’m not going to say a lot about that now, except to remind you to hold the date and time. We’ll be gathering in person at Justin’s place; doors at 6:00, getting underway at 6:30, done by around 7:30 so people with Little’s can still get the wee ones tucked in at a good time. No potluck – we’ll save that for next Christmas.
We won’t have a gathering on December 26th, but we’ll plan to fire things back up in January. More specifics about that in subsequent blurbs, but in general terms we are continuing to look at venue options as well as carrying on with a mix of in-person and online, as things unfold. We’ll figure it out.
And on another year-end related note, our always dapper and suave master-of-ceremonies Atticus is back with a brand new pie promotion. This one involves more people, more pies, more fun. Seriously, Atticus puts the “fun” back in “Fun-draiser”. And I’m ready for more pie, so bring it on! You can find Atticus in all his smooth-talking splendor here, and more details about making donations here. Also, for the Facebook-avoidant, Atticus is also enjoying his “youtube famous” moment here. (I just re-watched the video, and I’m still chuckling. So fine…)
