The church calendar has been a guide for the Church for centuries. It organizes the year around events in the life of Christ and the work of the church. 

The seasons of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends the day before Easter on Holy Saturday. This is a time of prayer, fasting, repentance in preparation for Easter.
