I not only learned alot of history reading this book, but it was very entertaining at the same time. The author uses a somewhat "relaxed" first-person voice, which gives it a very personal feel. What I also enjoyed about this book is that the reader is given a good feel about some of the things that the soldier's family and community is going through while all of these men are at war. This would be such a good book for middle school and high school students to learn about World War Two almost "first-hand' and in a thoroughly interesting way!

This book gives an excellent picture of what went on in the life of an army runner in WWII. From the beginning to the end, the author has a way of drawing the reader in to the midst of the event, the excitement, and the drama of the war, as well as the moments of joy with family. You will feel like you are right there, on the battlefield, in the barracks, etc.
If you are interested in history and want a picture of what the war was like, this book is for you! A must read!
A plus, for content; highly recommended.
Good book; the writer isn't the greatest, but the details in the book are brutally honest. I read another book similar to this, in that the author is describing the earlier life of the man he's writing about in this book, and that one was just as good.
Together they form an excellent picture of life during and immediately after the Great Depression and how the war affected ordinary people.
Good read!
A truly enjoyable book about WWII from the perspective of a real soldier. I was intrigued by the accounts of the time in Europe - as I had traveled to several of the places mentioned. Good read!
You'll feel like you were there!
Beautifully written novel recounting experiences of war, love and loyalty to family, and eternal questions about life and death in a time of conflict. A must read!
