Systematic Geekology

Our show focuses around our favorite fandoms that we discuss from a Christian perspective. We do not try to put Jesus into all our favorite stories, but rather we try to ask the questions the IPs are asking, then addressing those questions from our perspective. We are not all ordained, but we are the Priests to the Geeks, in the sense that we try to serve as mediators between the cultures around our favorite fandoms and our faith communities.

Why was Noah's righteousness so important to the story of the Flood? Was the Flood local or global in nature? Did the animals need to eat on the Ark? Did carnivores exist before the Flood? Is the Flood allegorical or actual history? Why does Christian really not like Ken Ham and Kent Hovind while kinda being close to their side of the debate for the historicity of early Genesis? Why were the animals separated by clean and unclean designations? How long did the Flood last? Why would God need to remember Noah in order to deliver him from the effects of the Flood? Can the Ark be found in Mt. Ararat? Why was Noah's response to offer sacrifices so pleasing to God?

What is the Gospel? That is the big question my wife Claire and I dialogue over in the finale to this series. We discuss the tiered system approach to theology and how it is possible that the Gospel should be the only item in that category. We dialogue about how the Gospel is simple and yet a very big reality, what heaven will be like, and the importance of pronouns! Claire also runs down her three favorite Christmas films and we get into it a bit over which Home Alone is better.

To kickoff the 2023 SG Christmas Drive-In, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of "Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas"! This year's Christmas Drive-In theme is animated Christmas films! We had our followers to the "Priests to the Geeks" Facebook group vote on their top 4 animated Christmas features and are going to review "The Nightmare Before Christmas", "Dr Suess' The Grinch", "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", and "Charlie Brown's Christmas"! Joshua Noel and Christian Ashley kick things off with a Disney classic!

.

Why is The Nightmare Before Christmas not a Christmas movie? Who was Jack Skellington as a human? What's the story behind The Nightmare Before Christmas? Is The Nightmare Before a Christmas a Halloween movie, a Christmas movie, or a Thanksgiving film? Is it the 30th anniversary of Nightmare Before Christmas? What does this movie teach us about thankfulness? How can we learn our own limitations and who we are meant to be? Should we sin so that Grace may abound? We discuss it all in this one! Elizabeth Donnelly and Russ Petrus, from "Catholic Women Preach", join us again! This time we discuss how women have been systemically disadvantaged in Church environments. Hosts Joshua Noel and TJ Blackwell ask about the ways the Bible has been translated, deaconesses have been overlooked, and jobs have been given away in Church history.

.

What the Bible says about women's role in the church? What is the main role of the woman in church? What is the point of women's ministry? Who was Julia in the Bible? Who was the apostle to the apostles? Who was Phoebe in the Bible? Are women allowed to be Catholic deacons? How do you address a female deacon? Which bishops are attending the synod? Who are the women in the Synod? What happened at the Synod in 2023?

.

In this episode, we will:

• Discuss the 2023 Catholic Synod
• Explore the history of female deacons
• Examine systemic sexism in the Church
• Discuss how the Bible has been translated to exclude women from ministry

*This episode explores explicit themes in the Bible and discusses highly sensitive scenes and topics in the Biblical narrative.

.

The Church above claims that God both doesn't want you be involved in politics and that He desires all Christians in America to vote as a Republican. Many people live in fear in the United States due to political agendas that are against the LGBTQ+ community, against immigrants, women's rights, and more. The God of the book of Judges desires HIs people to contribute to a different kind of polity that encourages hospitality.

.

This is the Underground Church and we believe that God cares deeply about politics and desires for people of every race, gender, religion, and sexual orientation to feel safe. What is the Christian view of politics? What political party are Christians? What is Christian political theology? Is there a Christian form of government? What is the Christian concept of hospitality? How can Christians show hospitality?

.

In this episode, we will:

• Explore the problems of Christians being inactive in politics
• Discuss the real sin of Sodom
• Examine the dangers of anarchy
• Wrestle with the ideas of sin in without God's people speaking up
