The Summer of Bonhoeffer resumes with a partial look at "Prayer Book of the Bible" by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. In this episode, I break down the general premise of the book as we learn how to pray by speaking the Word of God, specifically the Psalms back to God. I also wrestle with some of the implications of this approach to prayer, like what do we do with songs and prayers written by man or even AI? How far can we take reading Jesus into the Old Testament before it gets anti-Judaism and therefore antisemitic?

LIVE from The Temple's Edge in Matthews, NC! Christian Ashley, Will Rose, TJ Blackwell, and Elizabeth (Pang) Clyde discuss what would happen if we found plant life on other planets! Are there any plants on any other planets? What plants can grow on other planets? Can you grow plants on another planet? What plants could live on Mars? If we found plants on another planet, would we have an obligation to care for it? Does the Bible command us to care for our own yards, our whole planet, or all of life in the universe? Would we be able to take plants from other planets back to our own? We will discuss it all in this one! Join us on Discord to continue the conversation!

Have you noticed how polarized our culture has become both in and out of the church? Joshua Noel interviews Fr Aaron Wessman, author of "The Church's Mission in a Polarized World" and vicar general and director of formation for the Glenmary Home Missioners (glenmary.org). He has a PhD from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium in systematic theology, and is a guest lecturer at St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology.

.

What is polarization in simple terms? What is polarization in society? What does polarization mean in politics? What is polarization in psychology? What is polarization in ecclesiology? Have you lost contact family, friends, or other loved ones over cultural issues? Do you feel strained in your relationships at Church? How can we heal from division in our culture? Is the Church functioning as an agent of division or unity?

.

In this episode, we explore:

• How polarization has impacted our whole society
• How Catholic and Protestant believers can learn from each other
• The purpose of missioners in the Catholic Church
• What sets the Glenmary community different from other Catholic groups

The Church above pushes the idea that Christians should be perfect once they accept salvation. Many in the Church above put on a performance and try to act like they're perfect rather than admitting their guilts and mistakes to grow stronger together. Many in the Church make signs out of everything, while others ignore clear signs right in front of them.

.

This is the underground Church, where we are open about our mistakes and doubts. In this episode we examine the story of Gideon in Judges 6-8. How do we know whether something is truly a sign from God? Is it okay to doubt our callings and paths in life? How do Christians deal with doubts? Is doubt a lack of faith? Is doubt the same as unbelief? Why do I keep looking for signs? Can I ask the universe for a sign? How do I stop looking for signs in the universe?

.

In this episode, we will:

• Challenge the mainstream's church handling of signs
• Examine symptoms of a sick church
• Interpret the book of Judges
• Discuss how to look for signs
• Challenge our interpretation of the signs around us
