All too often we're tempted to think that the source of our pain, problems and dysfunction is "out there" - whether it be in other people, politics, certain ideologies, or even the state of the world. In Mark 7 Jesus flips this way of thinking on its head, offering a challenging teaching on the nature of sin, and where the true origin of uncleanness and defilement begins.

Hypocrisy can be one of the most damaging things in the church. In today’s passage in Mark, Jesus calls out the Jews, who consider themselves to be God’s people, for their hypocritical attitudes and actions. But is this only a problem for them, or is also a problem for us? And what can we do about the hypocrisy in our own hearts and minds? 

What would it look like for us to grow in intimacy with God in 2026? How might it impact our lives, and the lives of those around us - to increasingly live from a place of knowing that God is with us? James speaks on the presence of Jesus from the famous story of him walking on water.
