This week Shay and Elise begin to celebrate spooky season by discussing scary/horror/thriller movies that were based or filmed in Rhode Island.
Slight and not-so-slight digressions include the average cost of a home in Burrillville, Elise's personal run-in with a beauty-forward ghost, and a sexual awakening courtesy of the Sanderson sisters.

This week Shay and Elise take not one, not two, but FIVE local Rhode Islanders on a date. And these aren’t just any Rhode Islanders, these are people who have been called by some higher power (idk, Buddy Cianci?) to run in the Special Election for Rhode Island Senate District 3.
Join our dynamic duo as they ask Alex Cannon, Hilary Levey Friedman, Bret Jacob, Ray Rickman, and Sam Zurier questions like:
And as a bonus, we ask each candidate a VERY important question: why are you as a person - not a politician, candidate, or professional - best for this job?

In the third installment of That Week in Ridiculous Rhody Headlines Shay and Elise dive deep into what the Providence Journal had to whip up between September 24-October 1 in the early 20th century.
If you're into hearing about how Shay didn't do her research and chose a sad story, an egg fight between the AFL and CIO of Rhode Island *before* they hooked up, and one boy losing an eye and also a friend...this is the episode for you.
And! As an added bonus! Shay and Elise cover something that made news *this week* in Rhode Island. It may sound like they're a little harsh towards the Rhode Island Political Cooperative, but they're just really, really bad at sarcasm (apparently).

This week Elise takes Shay on a tour of St. Patrick's Day in honor of Rhode Island having their St. Patty's Day Parade in September of this year.
Join us in this short episode for learning all the good stuff like: how Snake Saturday is apparently a thing (02:28)? St. Patrick was never canonized (04:10)! The Irish make up the second-largest "yeah I got family over there" immigrant group in Rhode Island (07:42).

This week we're releasing a tour that Shay took Elise on a couple weeks ago and we're learning a little bit about the early Jewish History of Rhode Island!
Listen to when the Jewish community first came to Rhode Island (14:22), hear Elise read off some ye olde english (06:24) and attempt to figure out what a boy band-esque group of immigrants argued for (18:36), and the problematic industry that an oppressed group can still be involved in (21:42).
Ye olde excerpt that Elise reads at (06:24):
"Noe person within the sayd colonye at any tyme hereafter, shall bee any wise molested, punished, disquieted, or called in question, for any differences in opinione in matters of religion...all and everye person and persons may...at all tymes hereafter, freely and fullye have and enjoye his and theire owne judgements and consciences, in matter of religious concernments, throughout the tract of lande hereafter mentioned; they behaving themselves peacablie and quietlie, and not using this libertie to lycentiousnesse and profanenesse, nor to the civill injurye or outward disturbeance of any others."

This week Shay and Elise celebrate Labor Day by taking Rhode Island AFL-CIO union organizer Autumn Guillotte on a date. Autumn is also an executive board member for the Rhode Island Labor History Society so she really knows her stuff. You'd be hard pressed to find a bigger Rhode Island Labor History nerd than Autumn, so of course we had to ask her out for a co-op coffee date.
We cover topics like the origins of Rhode Island labor unions (08:32), what kind of sandwich organized labor would be (13:47), and one of the largest labor strikes in the country that took place right here in Rhode Island (22:51).
For locals, you can learn more about the history of Rhode Island Labor by attending the RI Labor History Society's annual labor day address at the Moshassuck Cemetery in Central Falls, (978 Lonsdale Ave, Central Falls, RI 02863) the site of the Saylesville Massacre of 1934 on Sept. 6th, 2021 at 10am.

This week the tables have turned and Elise is taking Shay on a -- as she puts -- "super platonic" date. In this episode you'll learn a bit about the younger, Washington-born Sausage Sister and hear all about:
What Shay's perfect day would be (02:47)
What she would want to know about herself via a crystal ball(07:03)
What object she would save if her house were on fire (09:26)
And, we take listener questions! Listen in to find out where Shay got her hot dog shirt and how she feels about the Seattle Mariners' Double-A team, the Arkansas Travelers.

This week Shay takes Elise on a "date" to learn a little more about our elder Sausage Sister. Listen in to see what makes our Missouri-born, BBQ-lovin', Christian Bale as Dick Cheney-obsessed co-host tick. You'll find out things about Elise that you didn't want to know, like,
When did she last sing to herself? To someone else? (04:30)
Does she have a secret hunch about how she will die? (05:10)
If she knew in one year she would die suddenly, would she change the way she lived? Why or why not. (11:17)
And, we take listener questions! Including one celeb listener who may or may not share the same DNA as Elise and prompts us to ask a very, very important question to our audience.

#StaySalty, everyone!
This week Shay and Elise explore a uniquely Rhode Island holiday - Victory Day. This day comes with some ~salty opinions~ so we want to provide our listeners with some talking points for their next Twitter argument. Those talking points include what this holiday is called (02:03), when it began (03:31), how Rhode Island celebrates it (05:40), and the plans - past and present - to change the name (10:15), and how the rest of the world observes the day (17:00).
Slight and not-so-slight tangents include Elise's Critical Race Theory Superhero (15:00), Shay's trips to The Melting Pot (27:30), and an unfortunate slip-up where we attribute some of Ariana Grande's genius to another 21st pop star (32:55) (sorry, A, we love you).
Slightly related, we've hit 10 episodes! It might be time to define-the-relationship, what do you think?
