In a short article about revising the Daily Offices of Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer, Fr. Martin Thornton suggested that although Bible reading and study are good things, they really shouldn't be combined with the regular prayer of the Church. After all, you can't do three things at once, at least, not well. He suggested that Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer should be revised to match what the common practice is, which is omitting the long scripture readings and consisting only of the Psalms, the Canticles, and the Prayers. The more I thought about it, I think he had a good idea there, and I have decided to try that pattern for a while. Beginning Saturday, May first, I will pray the daily office following his advice. A friend suggested I broadcast that on the web. Rather than live-streaming, I'll post them as a podcast so anyone who is interested can pray along.
