Luigi Mangione, 26, does not appear to have been a customer of UnitedHealthcare but may have targeted the company's CEO due to its size and influence, according to police.“We have found no evidence indicating that Luigi Mangione ever used UnitedHealthcare's health insurance services. However, he had previously referred to it as the fifth-largest corporation in the United States, which also makes it the largest health insurer in the country. That may explain why he chose this company as his target,” said Joseph Kenny, lead investigator at the New York Police Department (NYPD), on December 12.Kenny's statement followed Mangione's arrest on charges of murdering Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, in a street ambush in New York City earlier this month. Authorities are questioning Mangione to uncover his motives.
