Genesis 6 gives it four verses. The sons of God saw the daughters of men, took them as wives, and giants walked the earth. Scripture never explains who the sons of God were — but another book did, and the first people to hear Genesis already knew the rest of the story.
Two hundred angels made an oath on a mountain. One of their own carried the case to heaven, begging for a pardon that never came.
In this episode:
* Why Genesis 6 assumes its readers already knew who the "sons of God" were
* The Watchers' oath on Mount Hermon and the 200 who swore it
* Azazel and the forbidden knowledge handed to a world that wasn't ready for it
* The Nephilim — what they were, and why they didn't survive
* Enoch's mission to plead the Watchers' case, and the verdict he brought back
* Why Jude quotes Enoch by name, and what "reserved unto judgment" means in Peter's own words
* The Dead Sea Scrolls fragments, the church fathers who argued over it, and the one church that never let it go
Scripture referenced: Genesis 6, Jude 1:14-15, 2 Peter 2:4.
Note: The Book of Enoch is not part of the biblical canon for most traditions. This episode presents what the text says and how the early church regarded it — not as Scripture on par with the Bible — to illuminate what Genesis itself leaves unexplained.
