The Interfaith Hospitality Network at Alpha House is a community comprised of volunteers, staff, congregations, and organizations, all dedicated to helping unhoused families find stability. 

Alpha House's 31st Annual Gimme Shelter 2026!

· Benefiting Washtenaw County families experiencing homelessness
· Fundraising goal: $200,000. All funds raised will help cover sheltering expenses and support services, particularly during the winter season.
· Wednesday, October 14, 2026 - 6:00pm-9:00pm
· Ypsilanti Freighthouse, 100 Market Place, Ypsilanti, MI, 48198. The Freighthouse is located on the north side of Depot Town next to Frog Island Park. Shuttle service will be available if desired. The event will be completely accessible.
· Featuring: Five Miles More jazz band, a buffet dinner, and dancing to guests' favorite dance tunes. Local music aficianado Martin Bandyke will emcee the event and DJ Joe Grimley will spin the tunes! · Tickets cost $100 
· There is also a challenge match opportunity happening right now around this event. All additional gifts made to Alpha House between now and October 14th (outside of Gimme Shelter tickets and sponsorships) will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, by an anonymous donor - up to a total of $50,000. This is a tremendous opportunity for Alpha House to raise critical operational support.

SYNTH FEST!

This Saturday at the Downtown Library, it's a celebration of all things synthesizers! SYNTH FEST 2026, featuring a program to make your own synthesizer oscillator, a free play area where you can try out all the library's synths, and performances from robots4dancing, alvin hill, this.is.Noise inc., and the legendary Todd Osborn.

BYTE CLUB

Want to join the fan club for Library super fans? BYTE CLUB is for you. Byte, because that's what we call the black and white AADL logo, and Club, because there's always EDM playing. It's like that scene in Blade in the Meatpacking Plant slash vampire nightclub minus the vampires and the sprinklers. And we have cookies.

Go to aadl.org/byteclub with a "y" for all the information, but essentially we're in the third season of Byte Club, which runs from September through May, where each month, you're given some ways to engage with the library on a deeper level and/or share what you love about the library the most. Completing the basic tasks each month unlocks a hidden badge, similar to the Summer Game, and each of those badges gives you more ways to engage in all things library. There's a newsletter where we give peeks behind the curtain on things we're working on at the library or sneak peeks on things like Summer Game art and more. 

Plus, if you complete every month's challenge, you're eligible for a MAJOR AWARD, which is something!

UMS contributes to a vibrant cultural community in Southeast Michigan by presenting approximately 60-75 music, dance, and theater performances and over 100 free educational activities each season.
