WE humans are wired for love and when that love goes unfulfilled, we seem to respond in 3 main ways: 

1. Push everything away that may hurt us again

2. Find substitutes for love that have no ability to reject us.

3. Remove all healthy boundaries and throw ourselves 110% with the other person's happiness our only concern. Fear of rejection drives us to never disappoint anyone.

At the root of these is the fact we have a longing, and that longing left unattended leaves an area of lack.
