Another Look Podcast

I grew up as a person who relished the ability to fight and war with others.  I thought it was something to admire and cherish to the point I became a highly skilled fighter trained in various martial arts.  Not saying anything is wrong with studying the martial arts, but my reasons for doing it were not honorable. As I have matured and have followed Christ my mind has been renewed to understand the fight I am now called to fight is the fight of faith.  What I still find difficult is remaining committed more to fighting in faith as opposed to fighting in my flesh.  It remains a challenge sometimes. I find it even more difficult when I am engaged in a war in all three realities - spiritual, soul, physical. For this episode, I reflect back on a challenging and painful time in my past to bring context to Psalms 27:4 which is the key scripture for this episode.  Hope it blesses you.

God desires to be the object of our affection but, as fallible vessels, we often mistakenly set our affection on everything and everyone but God. Guess what? He wasn't caught off guard by this which is why He said He would give us the desires or affections, of our heart.  But what happens when our God-given affections become twisted, distorted, or misprioritized?  Let's talk about it.

In our previous episode we focused on the end goal of what's at the end of our hard season(s).  The difficulty is our mindset when we are experiencing hardships. We typically adopt a victim mentality when we are in hardships but when we make the conscious decision to seek God's perspective and perception while in our hard season(s) it allows us to endure those seasons like a good soldier.  So what does God say our mindset or thought life should be?  Glad you asked, we discuss it in this episode.

Pain and suffering is not considered a good or positive experience for most of us.  If we are being honest we find it hard to believe anyone enjoys experiencing pain or suffering in life. Frankly, it stinks! We are trained and led to believe things such as supernatural signs and human wisdom are ideal to have in life.  Human wisdom has its place in life but what happens when it holds a superior position in how we value godly things? The Apostle Paul tackles this topic in 1 Corinthians 1 as we see how human wisdom and the desire for supernatural signs (i.e. physical evidence of spiritual intervention) can diminish the power of what God used to reconcile us to Him.  You ready for this Word? It would be wonderful if walking by faith were easier right?  Unfortunately if it were that easy we would not experience the victories that God intended for us to have. But then how do we know we have faith?  By the testing of our faith. What may be difficult for us to accept is the more we grow the more difficult the testing as we shall see in Genesis 22.  How do we respond when what God asks of us seems contradictory to what He promised us?
