In this episode of Another Testament of Jesus Christ Podcast, we're studying Alma 3 in the Book of Mormon and looking at the aftermath of the terrible war between the Nephites, Lamanites, and Amlicites.

One of the biggest themes in Alma 3 is the idea of a mark—the Amlicites deliberately mark their foreheads to show who they have chosen to follow. We'll talk about the difference between the mark and the curse in the Book of Mormon, why the Amlicites marked themselves, and how outward symbols can represent something much deeper about our identity and allegiance. I also share some thoughts about Native American face paint and the different ways markings have been used to represent identity, belonging, protection, remembrance, and preparation for battle.

But the question that really stayed with me was: What do we choose to mark ourselves with? Who do our choices show that we are following?

That question led me to think about missionaries who willingly put the name of Jesus Christ on their chest every day. So at the end of this episode, I sit down with my daughter, Sister Tacoma Campbell, who is serving in the Philippines Lipa Mission. We talk about what it means to carry the Savior's name, finding strength when God asks us to do hard things, the power of change through Jesus Christ, and what the people of the Philippines have taught her about faith.

Alma 3 is ultimately a chapter about agency. We choose who we follow, which voices we listen to, and little by little those choices shape who we become.

This chapter is intense. Amlici wants to become king, the voice of the people rejects him, and what begins as political contention quickly turns into a massive war. Thousands of people lose their lives, the Nephites find themselves fighting for their homes and families, and Alma comes face-to-face with Amlici in battle.

But what I love most about this chapter is what happens when the Nephites realize they cannot do this alone. They cry out to God, and He strengthens them in the middle of their battle. Alma doesn't ask the Lord simply to save his life—he asks to be an instrument in God's hands to save his people.

We'll talk about Amlici, Alma's prayer, fighting for freedom, the wild beasts in the wilderness of Hermounts, and what this chapter teaches us about the incredible power of God.

Whatever battle you may be facing right now, I hope Alma 2 reminds you that God may not always remove the battle—but He can strengthen you to walk right through it.

In this episode, we're diving into Alma 1 from the Book of Mormon. We'll meet Nehor, who introduced priestcraft and false teachings, promising everyone salvation no matter how they lived. But one man stood up to him: Gideon, a quiet hero who defended truth until the very end.

We'll talk about what priestcraft actually is, why it's dangerous, and how teachings like "just do what feels good" and "success equals money" still lead people away from Christ today. This chapter feels surprisingly modern.

We'll also look at how the Nephites prospered when they stayed humble, served each other, and followed Christ. It's a reminder that real happiness and prosperity come through righteous living.

In this episode, we'll dive into Mosiah chapter 29 from the Book of Mormon, where we explore a major shift in Nephite government—from kings to judges—and what it teaches us about righteous leadership, personal accountability, and the power of agency.

We'll discuss how the people recognized the selfless service of King Mosiah, how this chapter parallels principles of democracy and freedom we value today, and why this message is especially meaningful during 4th of July celebrations.

We'll also reflect on how spiritual freedom and God's plan of agency allow us to truly come to know Him.

In this chapter, we witness the powerful union of the Nephites and the people of Zarahemla, led by King Mosiah. Alma's incredible missionary work continues as he baptizes Limhi and his people. This chapter focuses on the significance of preserving records, understanding one's roots, and the incredible power of FAITH, REPENTANCE, and COMMUNITY.

In today's chapter, we will follow Alma and his people through some tough times in Mosiah Chapter 24. Alma and his followers are facing some serious threats. They're not allowed to pray, and if they do, they could be killed! But even in the scariest moments, they keep praying silently in their hearts, and of course.... God hears their cries! Today we will talk about how God often times doesn't take our burdens away but he does help us by making our troubles feel lighter. And lets face it,.... these are his favorite times. The times we are closest to him, the times we pray the hardest, the times we need him in our life!

As we follow Alma's journey in this chapter, we see how faith and trust in God can get us through even the hardest times. So get ready for an adventure packed with miracles and lessons about trusting in God. You won't want to miss it!
