The University of Arizona recently became the seventh of the nine initial universities invited to formally decline the Trump administration's offer of priority federal funding. The proposal, called the "Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education," would provide preferential access to federal funds in exchange for agreeing to a list of demands.
The rejection by the University of Arizona follows similar decisions by other major universities, with most citing concerns about academic freedom and institutional autonomy.
