For thus says the Lord,

  Who created the heavens

    He is God!

  Who formed the earth and made it

    He established it;

    He did not create it empty,

    He formed it to be inhabited!

“I am the Lord, and there is no other."

A classic argument for evolution says that different creatures have similar embryos, and therefore share an evolutionary ancestor. 19th-century biologist Ernst Haeckel famously forged drawings making embryos appear more alike than they are, and believed embryos re-enact evolution. While most scientists no longer believe this, textbooks still say embryo similarities show evolution in other ways. Let’s continue examining these claims with the 7 Checks of Critical Thinking.

Where does the idea the earth is 4.5 billion years old come from? Most people would tell you it’s because of radiometric dating, but the answer might surprise you!

And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

And the waters prevailed so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered. The waters prevailed above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits deep. And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all mankind. Everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died. He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark.

Throughout the green movement, many are promoting a culture of death in the name of life, health and eco-justice.  Whereas the God of Scripture says, “be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it”, and tells us that children are a heritage and reward from him, this new religion tells us that children are a threat to planetary life and large families a disease.

Do creatures with similar-looking features share the same evolutionary ancestor? Textbooks often say so, but let’s see how to think critically and biblically about such arguments.
