As the Israelites are enslaved in Egypt in Exodus 5, Pharaoh responds to Moses’ pleas for their release by eliminating their resources and imposing greater burdens on their labor. They find themselves charged to make bricks from straw - overwhelmed, anxious, and left with no time or energy to clearly remember or reflect on the promises of God.
