In this podcast, anthropologist Roxanne Varzi (University of California, Irvine) discusses her second mystery novel, Silent Scream: A Nordic Non-Noir, published in 2025. In conversation with Astrid Oberborbeck Andersen (Antropologforeningen and Aalborg University), she explores anthropological murder mysteries, how to make theory more accessible, and the importance of diverse genres and forms of communication within anthropology as a discipline.

Roxanne Varzi is an Iranian-American anthropologist, born in Iran, who has conducted much of her fieldwork in Tehran. The podcast was recorded in August 2025, prior to the current war in Iran and the Middle East.
