Despite being one of the most qualified and dynamic quarterbacks available, Sanders’ move to the Cleveland Browns reignites an ugly truth: Black quarterbacks are still heavily scrutinized, doubted, and systemically steered into teams historically unstable or struggling. Instead of being celebrated and developed at a top franchise, Sanders now faces the uphill battle of carrying a franchise often used as a dumping ground for “prove-it” players. Many in the Black sports community see this as yet another reminder that no matter the talent, leadership, or pedigree, Black excellence at quarterback is still not rewarded equally — it’s rerouted, disrespected, and overburdened. This fallout sparks deeper conversations: Is this about talent, or is it about controlling Black leadership in the NFL?

2025 NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders, the standout quarterback from Colorado and son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, remains undrafted. This is a surprising development, given that he was widely projected as a first-round pick and even considered a potential top-five selection. Despite his impressive college career—leading the Big 12 in passing yards (4,134), touchdowns (37), and completion percentage (74%) in 2024—Sanders has not been selected through the first three rounds of the draft .

However, he went undrafted through the first three rounds, with five quarterbacks selected ahead of him: Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe, and Dillon Gabriel.
