Maternal asthma and allergic predisposition are associated with an increased risk of congenital heart defects in offspring, particularly ventricular septal defects. The risk of ventricular septal defects is evident in cases of allergic asthma and atopy, but not in nonallergic asthma.

In the Netherlands, the incidence of preterm birth in singletons is subject to seasonality. Pregnancies conceived in April and May have the highest incidences of preterm birth <37 weeks. Fetuses are at the highest risk for preterm birth between October and January and lowest in February and April.

Maternal diabetes, fever, positive urinary or vaginal/cervical culture, fetal tachycardia, and decreasing short-term variation were associated with an increased risk for EONS in a PPROM population. A model combining these risk factors performed better at indicating EONS risk than the clinicians' suspicion of intra-amniotic infection.

Migraine is associated with an increased risk of preeclampsia
and preterm birth. It may also be linked to an increased
risk of low birth weight and small for gestational age. Sub-analyses
indicate an elevated risk of preeclampsia and preterm
birth across migraine subtypes.

This original research paper investigated the connection between the placental to fetal volume ratio at 27 weeks gestation and the timing of spontaneous delivery. Using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure volumes in a small cohort of pregnancies, the study found that a higher placental to fetal ratio at this stage was significantly linked to a longer remaining duration of pregnancy. While larger placental size also showed a weaker association with a longer pregnancy, fetal size itself did not appear to be a significant predictor of the time until spontaneous labor. The authors suggest that this ratio might serve as a better indicator of pregnancy maturity than just fetal size.

Pregnancies and live births after uterus transplantation are at high-risk of maternal complications such as hypertensive disorders and premature rupture of membranes, as well as perinatal complications including preterm birth and respiratory distress syndrome.

In older women undergoing a diagnostic cervical excision, 70% tested HPV negative after 2.9 years, leaving 30% with persistent HPV positivity. More studies are needed to determine the risks associated with continued HPV positivity in the absence of high-grade disease. Furthermore, given the absence of specific guidelines, the optimal surveillance frequency remains unknown.
