Wikipedia defines a time slip as a paranormal phenomenon in which a person, or group of people, seem to either travel through time via unknown means or appear to briefly enter an alternate version of present reality via unknown means.

There have been some pretty interesting stories about people that have actually experienced this paranormal phenomenon notable stories include the "Ghosts of Versailles" and the "Vanishing Hotel". People experiencing the event claim that reality takes on a very flat and lifeless feeling to it. Often accompanied by feelings of depression and unease. Despite being able to interact with the various people and elements of the past people that experience a time slip says it's relatively short-lived. Such as no sooner than you notice you're in the past you quickly return to your own time period.
