This is a tribute to Richard D. James.
I started learning music theory on my own in my room at 19, and ever since then I’ve been learning almost exclusively from Richard's music. The first song of his I listened to was 4, and I LITERALLY lost my mind. Wait - You can actually compose this kind of music? It opened up so many doors for me as a composer: drums can express a state of mind, a feeling. If I’m sad, I use a snare and a kick, and that’s how I express my sadness. THANK YOU, RICHARD, for showing me that music is also about spontaneity and intuition.
