Apollonia 6 | Sex Shooter (Change Request ReVision)
For this ReVision, I remade the first single off of this Minneapolis group’s 1984 self-titled album, “Apollonia 6”
“Sex Shooter” was written and produced by Jamie Starr for his protégés, Vanity 6, but after Vanity left the group, Starr brought in Apollonia Kotero, and changed the name of the group simultaneously.
This only hit from the group primarily features the vocals of Apollonia with backing vocals by Wendy & Lisa, Jill Jones—key members of The Revolution—and rhythm sections courtesy of Shelia E.
The song appeared in the movie “Purple Rain” as did its lead singer, playing a prominent love interest role in the film. Charting at #7 on both the U.S. dance and R&B charts, Billboard named ”Sex Shooter” as #93 on their list of 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time.
Remade with the classic Minneapolis lineup—LinnDrum LM-2, Oberheim DX, Oberheim OBX, and Yamaha DX7—this was recreated with @EventideAudio spatial processing, using the SP2016 Reverb, the Instant Phaser Mk II, and reverb from @WavesAudio and Abbey Road Studios.
