Wyser | You Gotta Be (Andrew Emil Dreamix) [Cheap Talk]
As the sun hits oh so sweetly during the ever-expanding summer evenings, Cheap Talk is proud to present the perfect companion in ‘You Gotta Be’ by Wyser, which is served up multiple times via some stellar remix work from some supremely talented producers.
Returning to the label once again as a follow-up to the effortlessly joyous ‘I Need’ (released alongside Petty Davis), Wyser adds further to the sound and spirit of Cheap Talk on ‘You Gotta Be’, which exudes all that is found at the soul of House music. The Chicago-based label, headed by Ilana Ariella with Shmoo on A&R duty, speaks to the city’s House traditions whilst keeping a firm eye on the future. ‘You Gotta Be’ is yet another commanding step forward for the label, with the title track complemented with four musically diverse and hyper progressive remixes - all of which is reflective of the label’s ethos of releasing ground-breaking, thought-provoking dance music.
The original cut is lavishly presented with a simmering, incisive rhythm section, which is allowed to roll on and on until the deep-set melodic sequence comes into view, with an emphatic breakdown that will lead to endless smiles and warm hearts all round. Angel Alanis and Maria Goetz are up next with their spin on the title track, which draws greater focus to the impressive bones that make up the overall structure. A percussive work-out of the highest order, each element is delicately considered in terms of its tone and feel, with great emphasis placed on when to release energy, when to take a breath, and when to ensnare the senses of all those present on the dancefloor.
Jason Merle’s ‘Kerfuffle Shuffle’ version is up next, which shifts towards the deeper side of House. A slightly stripped-back rhythm section provides a solid basis for the melodic features to shine, which drift and sweep across the top ends with a pulsating, magnetic kind of feel and tone. The Dub Mix lands next, and as it says on the tin, takes things down into the depths. A certain kind of euphoric atmosphere takes over, shifting the walls of the club with a feverish and captivating presence that merges with the shared spirits of the dancefloor.
To wrap things up, Andrew Emil’s ‘Dreamix’ arrives to take spirits away to new plains of bliss. A sultry, easy-breezing vibe takes over, with new melodic patterns presented that are reminiscent of star-kissed skies, hazy mirages, and deep blue hues. A perfect way to end an EP filled to the brim with vitality, presence, and meaning.
With summer days on the horizon, ‘You Gotta Be’ has all that is required to soundtrack a myriad of experiences, places, and spaces, with favourite people or a dancefloor full of like-minded individuals. There’s a spot for all, so why not jump onboard….
