  • Chris Quintana: Ai – Good, Bad, or Neutral?

Mary welcomes Chris Quintana back to the podcast to talk about Ai – morally, physically, philosophically, scientifically.  Some of us of a certain age thought our answering machines were pretty special, because before those things showed up, we were pretty much unreachable. Then came this century. There is so much to try and parse about Ai it’s mind-boggling. Today we look at how it should–or shouldn’t–be applied to bible prophecy; whether it’s artificial, intelligent, or just thinks it thinks. Many wishful thinkers believe that when it gets “intelligent enough” it will become conscious. Well, birds and dogs are conscious, but not nearly as intelligent as humans or Ai. What about if it escapes its pen? Is it really just a sophisticated answering machine or does it have no answers whatsoever? Does it hallucinate? A fun and full hour with the very thoughtful Chris Quintana.

  • Bub Kuns: Debunking the Bunk, Verifying the Truth

Mary welcomes back Bub Kuns to talk about the latest in the “Debunked” video series. When it comes to topically exposing lies that enslave, no one does it visually better than Bub and the Reasons for Hope crew. Today we talk about their newest reasoning tool, “The Earth is Flat”. One might wonder how in the world such a theory could gain any traction in such a scientifically rational world in which photographic and scientific evidence quickly and easily destroys such a theory. But what is behind their thinking? Quite possibly simply the word “theory” – and a deep-seated need to distrust any and all of the world’s institutions that some people have decided are decidedly untrustworthy.  So is it even worth it to debate them at all? Some might say no, but what if we peel back the motives and look at why people believe such things, and discover what other questions they might have about things that are eternal? The same ones humans have always had. We also look at the most popular Debunked videos, and the most effective. A fun hour with one of the more creative apologists out there.

  • Don Veinot: Guarding the Flock in the Digital Age

Mary welcomes back Don Veinot to discuss pastoring in the digital age: are pastors aware of the ways social media is shaping those in their care? One recent study reports that teens spend an astounding 10 hours every day on their cell phones, with tweens (ages 8-12) logging in at nearly 6 hours. Adults, on average, devote four hours and 25 minutes to scrolling. This means adults will spend over two months on their phones this year. When you consider that most Christians only spend a handful of hours each week worshiping, studying the bible, and in fellowship, we have to ask if we are being discipled more by our devices than anything else. In the 1970s even, what shaped youth was school, parents, community, perhaps church, and books and music; sometimes TV. But now capturing hearts and minds in these last days is a simple scroll away.  Are we keeping up? How can the church counter any of its influence? Is it too late? A thoughtful conversation with a long-time apologist who loves the church.

  • Barbara Charles Pement: A Time For Every Purpose

Mary welcomes Barbara Pement, formerly senior editor of Cornerstone Magazine of Chicago, is a writer, teacher, wife, mom and grandmother. Barbara grew up on Chicago’s Southside in Maple Park, Chicago’s first African American homeowners’ neighborhood. She joined Jesus People USA in her 20s where she met her husband of 44 years. Barbara has a BA in journalism from Bradley University and has studied radio/television broadcasting at Columbia College in Chicago. Currently she is actively involved with Ratio Christi on the University of North Florida campus, a ministry that equips and trains students in apologetics. Today we look at her rich and varied life through 2 books:  “Was…Was That Jesus?” her memoir of 23 years at Jesus People USA.  Her latest is, “Maple Park: Gathered Treasures of Black Life in the ‘60s”. They can be found here. We talk about her testimony, her upbringing, her years at JPUSA. Through all her seasons of life, the Lord was clearly directing her steps, and hearing her testimony will encourage those who struggle with piecing together various seasons where events sometimes just don’t always bring clarity on this side of eternity.

  • Stephanie Potts: Social Justice – Perfecting Society, Deifying Man

Mary welcomes new guest Stephanie Potts to the podcast. She worked with the federal government as an intelligence analyst for 15 years and now works with Midwest Christian Outreach. She is passionate about evangelism and apologetics and discernment education. Her definitive book is “Social Justice and the Deification of Man: What You Need to Know When Talking to the Christian Left”. Today we take apart what seemed to be just another way “to do church” in the early part of this century and drag it over to it’s logical conclusion: the deification of man. While that might sound dramatic, it is absolutely what is and always was behind the door of the emergent church/emergence theology that dared to attempt to do plastic surgery on the bride of Christ by denying the need for the atonement, rethinking the gospel, and placing all power and authority for the end game of earth on man. Even though the Bible teaches something apocalyptically different, the doesn’t stop man from thinking that sin is merely all the ways society has let us down. How can Christians better respond to the left on this? Perhaps making fun of the No Kings approach isn’t the most helpful and yet it’s hard not to take that route. A thoughtful hour with an expert on the social justice end game.

  • Replay – Avery Foley: Parenting on Purpose

[Original airdate: 4/9/25] Mary welcomes Avery Foley from Answers in Genesis to talk about parenting in these times. With so many parenting styles over the decades, and home-school curricula, parents need to be not just intentional but also measure everything by the Word. We talk about the big issues of the day – are children mature enough to understand them? There was a time not only did these cultural issues remain hidden from children’s eyes, but the children were also allowed to fully experience childhood free from the knowledge of sexual and political understanding in a way far beyond their years.  We talk about discernment in curricula; and helping kids make good choices in behavior and self discipline. Telling them what they did wrong, but also helping them choose better next time is critical to driving home the need for good character and responding biblically. She and her husband Trevor produce great children’s content in the form of educational and entertaining videos. They can be found here at Answers TV.

  • JB Hixson: Surrendered, Set Apart, Sanctified

    Dr. JB Hixson

Mary welcomes back JB Hixson to explore a Bible topic that is both personal and practical: surrendering fully to Jesus. In John 3:29-30, we read, He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease. John was said by Jesus to be the greatest among those born of women, but the least in the kingdom. Now that is a conundrum and yet we understand the unique position John was in for all of history, and that he never saw the crucifixion or resurrection. So let’s get practical: what does that mean to decrease and give Jesus preeminence in our lives? What does this look like as the ultimate ministry model? How is the church doing on that front when we consider all the glory some ministries take for themselves? A timely hour with JB.

  • Don Veinot: Christianity in the Age of Re-Enchantment

Mary welcomes back seasoned apologist Don Veinot of Midwest Christian Outreach to talk about “sycretism” and why the majority of evangelicals embrace it to some level or another. What is syncretism? Is it those dreadful “Co-Exist” bumper stickers, or something more sinister? Syncretism is the mixing of one faith/belief system with another, it is mixing two things that aren’t supposed to go together. Accepting parts of each, but denying the whole. But the gospel cannot be divided and conquered to make us more comfortable. However, syncretism is the natural, meaning carnal, response to the Gospel. Some reject the Gospel completely. Others want to accept only part of the Gospel, merging specific aspects of it to fit their own ideas. We give quite a few examples, some of which might surprise the listener. Then we look at deconstruction – what it is and isn’t. One would hope that the one that is disappointed with orthodoxy on any level actually looked deeply into what Christianity actually teaches and then made a sober decision. Or is it emotional, a response to either God or man letting them down? A fundamental hour with Don.

  • Replay – Lee Brainard: Eyes Wide Open, Brain Engaged, Heart on Fire

Original airdate: 12/3/24: Mary chats with teacher, author and prophecy expert Lee Brainard about his deep studies into the Rapture. Lee has some great insights in his book, “Ten Potent Proofs for the Pre-Trib Rapture” and it’s all in one short volume.  A great resource for those who may be confused by the genuine disdain that the church at large has developed for this viewpoint of late. And what about the incredible way the US has turned a corner on normality with the outcome of November’s election? How does that affect the time table for the rapture? After all, the globalists have been in the red zone for a while, now a nationalist has intercepted and is heading things a different direction. Does it matter? Imminency is key of course. Learn more about Israel, dispensationalism, and the rapture with answers for those who oppose the clear teaching of Scripture on this matter. An hour to challenge us all.

  • Ken Ham: Like a Fire in My Bones

Mary welcomes Ken Ham to the podcast to talk about 50 years of impact through Answers in Genesis. From the start of his life in Queensland, Australia, Ken was surrounded by parents and grandparents who modeled service and an uncompromising love for truth centered around God’s Word. Sometimes our testimony is a series of divinely orchestrated events that get us on the same page with God, other times it’s a pivotal moment. Either way, who can doubt that it’s miraculous, and Ken’s story truly is, from the beginning!  From science teacher to AiG, God has had His purposes and plans for one of the most enduring and effective apologetics ministries of modern times. We talk about his youth in Australia, the birth of AiG, coming to American shores, and the Creation Museum project. We learn of experiences both high and low in engaging the culture and standing firm for truth that has made the AiG worldview so eternally effective. The book is “Miraculous! The Ken Ham and Answers in Genesis Story”, which can be found here.
