This week Leah and Andrew explore popular illustrations used to describe the trinity and show which heresy each illustration commits. We discuss the illustrations of the Trinity as a man, water, the sun, an egg, and a clover. The heresies discussed are Arianism, partialism, modalism, and tritheism. This episode is for anyone who wants to accurately describe the Trinity without falling into these common mistakes. The video mentioned in the episode can be found here: St Patrick’s Bad Analogies.

This week we explore the 5th century heresies of Nestorianism and Eutychianism. In an attempt to explain the nature of Jesus, both of Nestorius and Eutychius, along with their followers, committed different heresies. The debate over Jesus human and divine natures was settled at the Council of Chalcedon in 451 AD. Even still, versions of these heresies are present today. Listen to learn more about these heresies and how they impact Christianity in our day.

This week we explore the ancient heresy Gnosticism. The Gnostics believed that spiritual things were inherently good and physical things were inherently bad. This means that Jesus only appeared to be human since he could not actually become something that is inherently bad. Additionally, the Gnostics believe they have received a special divine revelation that reveals the truth path to salvation outside of sculpture. We explore Gnosticism and how these beliefs are still present today in our own world.

This week we talk about the controversies surrounding Bethel and Hillsong. We explore whether it’s appropriate for Christians to continue to listen to and sing their songs. In other words, we ponder whether the issues with these churches disqualify their songs from corporate worship. We discuss other issues surrounding worship music, Christian musicians, and offer advice for any pastor or worship leader who picks out music for their congregation.

This season is all about heresy! The first heresy of the season is Arianism. Arius and his followers in the 300s believed Jesus was not fully God, but was instead a created being. We talk about why and how this was condemned as heresy in favor of trinitarianism at the Council of Nicea in 325. We also share where Arianism is still found in modern society.
For the segment breaks we talk about St Nick allegedly punching Arius and share how you can help us continue to produce this podcast for a small monthly donation on Patreon: patreon.com/leahdchapman

This week Leah and Andrew explore the history of denominations and their theological distinctions. We see that Christians share a core set of beliefs despite many differences. These core beliefs are what distinguish Christian beliefs from non-Christian beliefs. We explore some of the many differences, but argue that they in no way undermine the core message of Christianity. Specifically we talk in depth about some denominations differences within Wesleyan traditions.
The segment breaks feature giant squirrels and share important news about Apologetics Simplified. We will be taking a two week break between seasons. Join us again July 6, 2021 for season 7 which is all about heresy.
