Matt McDannell is the owner and one of the artists at "Mostly Harmless" Tattoo Shop in Cortland, NY. He teaches me all about tattoos and tattooing, and after a bit, we meander into talking about the 90's. Check out Matt's work @get_rad_tattoos on Instagram and elsewhere. • 113 - Let's Talk about Sex with Marisa Hunter
Among other things, Marisa Hunter is a certified Erotic Blueprint coach and educator. She sat with us to talk about sex and pleasure, and offered some words of encouragement for each of us to relentlessly pursue our own pleasure. Marisa is a local friend so we actually got to record in person, which was sweet. Find out your EROTIC BLUEPRINT TYPE at: https://surveyanyplace.com/s/eroticblueprint%20 Intro Song: “Let’s talk about Sex” by Salt-n-Pepa (weird karaoke version).

  • 112 - Life… with Mike Garcia from "The Rook"
You might think that by “Life”, I mean, like, “Biogenesis.” But no. Mike Garcia is the singer of a hot new band out of Long Island called “The Rook”. Check them out! @therookband … He is also a huge nerd and a lawyer and an accountant and a mythology aficionado, but we somehow managed not to get to any of that in our 90 minutes. We catch up about being dads, the PR-NY connection, and honestly we reminisce alot about the music scene on Long Island from ‘93-‘03. Opening songs “Why Can’t We Have More” and “Haunt This Town” by The Rook. Check them out!

  • 111 - PTSD with Shantée Ayala (from @ScienceFailureSoul)
Shantée Ayala Rosario is a PhD student at UCLA studying Neuroscience. She documents her journey - and the journey of others - on a variety of social media accounts and websites, because a tour of the campus from someone who’s getting paid by the school only scratches the surface of what the process is actually like. Check out her stuff @sciencefailuresoul on Instagram, Youtube, and elsewhere! Intro song: “The Periodic Table” by Cut Chemist

  • 110 - Wildlife (of NYS) with Steve Wood (@TheBackyardZoologist)
Steve Wood is a former Zoologist who now works in Health & Human Services. We sat down and discussed the animals that live in his area (which is a similar group to the ones that lived in my old area), and a few that live elsewhere. You can see his photos of these animals on Instagram @thebackyardzoologist. Intro Song: “Love Will Tear Us Apart” by Joy Division.

Sara Suzanne is an Animal Science extraordinaire, a Carribbean tour coordinator, a master chicken nurse and caretaker, a Marine Biology/SCUBA/snorkel/freedive enthusiast, and a member of my pandemic bubble. I gave her a homework assignment to read up on a recent science headlines about Dinosaur buttholes (cloaca if you nasty). We talk about other animals’ buttholes, too, and even some other parts of animals. And Squigglevision. And some other stuff. Dig it! The intro music is: “She Blinded me with Science” by 8 Bit Universe, a Tribute to Thomas Dolby. Check them out at Bandcamp, iTunes, etc!

  • 106 - Science News Roundup (just Yogi)
Just Yogi this week, rounding up some of the most interesting (and bizarre) science stories from recent weeks. Didn't want to focus on Mars and Covid too much, so we got them out of the way briefly in the beginning.

  • 105 - Games and Learning with Josh Garfinkel
Josh has been a good friend for nearly 3 decades. He teaches Writing and Literature in Denver (but he's a NYer). We talk about a variety of topics, but focus on Games (and Gaming) and the human mind (including how we learn, why we like the things we do, mental health, etc).
Some background: I've given Josh (and others) crap about D&D for many years, and here we really get into an analysis of why some people like it and others don't. Also get into video games, having kids, etc. Life, bro.
Josh is what I would call a “Bibliophile” or “Literati”, and he uses a lot of big words; I commend him on his patience when talking to a math/science guy like me.
Lastly: Yeah, this is a really long episode. I thought about splitting it into two, but decided to leave it as one. I do suggest you take it in pieces of a size that work for you.
Intro song - “Knowledge” by Operation Ivy
